The history of the Whiting family has long fascinated me. The stories that my grandmother, Frances Grinnell Kirschner, told me fired my imagination. My grandmother was brought up by her grandparents Isaac and Sarah Jane (Talcott) Whiting.  Isaac and Sarah Jane made the arduous trek from Manti, Iowa to Clitherall, Minnesota in 1865 to be among the first settlers of the county following the Great Sioux Uprising. While I was a child, my parents rented Isaac Whiting's old home on the shores of Lake Clitherall for a couple of summers.  There, I met the few remaining "Cutlerites" in Clitherall and listened raptly to the stories told by my great great Aunt Amy Whiting and Bertha Murdock.  Please click the links below for more information about the Whitings.
